Thimbleweed (anemone virginiana)

by Lesley Bonisteel

If you practice meditation or would like support while learning to meditate you will find Thimbleweed helpful. One of its abilities is to aid mental focus, an important and sometimes difficult part of meditating. This not only makes Thimbleweed an excellent essence to use when meditating, dowsing with the pendulum, using visualization and focusing techniques but for any task or activity that requires your attention and concentration.

Thimbleweed also helps give the ability to enhance focus on the physical level as well. With its planetary association relating to the Earth, Thimbleweed is a very grounding essence. Again, helpful in meditation but also at times when you feel a bit scattered or that you're running in high gear.

The potential transformation with Thimbleweed is about inner direction, taking charge of your own life, moving easily from your core, building and strengthening your energy base.

The plant grows in open, dry woods and fields. Its flowers are a greenish white colour. It gets its name from its thimble shaped fruit. Its seeds are covered in a cottony fluff. North American Indians used the roots for various illnesses as decoctions and poultices and the smoke of the seeds was used to revive the unconscious patient. Apparently they also put the roots under the pillow of a "crooked wife" to induce dreams!

Meditation: Accessing and Understanding the Language of the Higher Self

by Monique Allore

Meditation clears the mental and physical "noise" associated with daily life; it centres us and allows us to feel fully present in our bodies and in tune with a larger, more peaceful universal rhythm. It doesn't matter what kind of difficulties we are faced with in our daily life; all feels right when we enter this meditative zone. This meditative zone also represents a place where we are connected to our Higher Self, the Self which is all knowing and has the capability of channeling important information about ourselves.

Simply knowing that information is available to you through meditation can unlock the potential and start to make the flow possible. Once symbols start being channeled to you, it is necessary that you acknowledge each one as being important to you regardless of whether you understand the symbol's meaning or not. The symbols may be revealed as colours, shapes, objects, letters, animals or even words, sounds and feelings. What is key here is that you allow the information to flow and that you allow the symbol to tell you its meaning or purpose. It is very much a listening/receptive meditative energy. Sometimes I find it helpful say to myself "allow, allow, allow" so as not to let my conscious mind in to make inferences about information which is symbolic in nature and whose meaning can become lost if efforts are being made to translate it though the conscious mind.

When the meaning of your symbol is unknown sometimes it's as easy as asking the symbol what it is trying to tell you; other times it takes more frequent encounters with the symbol before its meaning becomes clear. For this reason, I recommend that you keep a record of the symbols you encounter when meditating. Soon you may start to notice some connections and you'll begin understanding the language of your Higher Self.

Never become impatient with yourself or doubt what is being revealed. This will only create a self defeating, critical energy which will in turn create blocks. Before beginning your meditation you may even find it helpful to state to yourself "I connect now to my Higher Self and allow my personal truth and my personal Language to be revealed to me".

When seeking out your symbols or the language of your Higher Self it is also my opinion that your best results will occur when you do not use any background meditation music. Music by definition is an energy which carries its own vibration and thus will invoke experiences that are associated with the energy of that music. Certainly music has its place and I use it myself particularly when I want to relax. The point here is that creating a physically quiet space in which to meditate can help ensure that you have a meditation which is uniquely your own and free of influences. Finally, enjoy the inward quest as you uncover the language of your Higher Self.

4. Your Questions Answered

A lot of people are asking how to use the pendulum. If you live close enough to the Lindsay area, come for a workshop on Dowsing with the Pendulum or we may be able to arrange one in your area. Contact Lesley for details at workshops@clearpathessences.com.

Otherwise, a Web site we recommend you visit is:

members.tripod.com/~Reid_J/BRIAN.HTML.

There is a lot of poor information out there, so be careful. Brian's work is trustworthy. He tells me that he is careful to allow individuals to develop their own techniques, which I also think is important. Check it out.

5. Our Readers' Input

Newsletter subscriber Linda Hicks writes about natural cures for cold sores:

Christmas is just around the corner and along with the festivities comes times of stress, poor eating habits, less sleep and a disruption of our normal schedules. The perfect environment for the appearance of the "dreaded cold sore", otherwise known as herpes simplex virus. Not exactly the kind of accessory we'd like to wear to the office Christmas party!

But don't panic. There's plenty of things to do to prevent or minimize an outbreak. Since herpes is a virus, it will respond to all measures designed to improve immune disfunction.

Studies have shown that refined carbohydrates (ie sugars) can depress the immune system as soon as one hour after eating them. Drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes also depletes the immune system. If you are prone to getting cold sores, avoiding foods high in the amino acid arginine, such as nuts, seeds, chocolate, dairy and cereal grains can help prevent on outbreak. Taking extra lysine (also an amino acid) and extra vitamin C during an outbreak can decrease the severity. Foods rich in Lysine include fish, poultry, lima beans, and mung bean sprouts.

Personally, I have had great success with the homeopathic Natrum Muricatum and I understand that essences will help, with their ability to relieve stress and balance the system. Having been plagued with what were at times quite painful cold sore blisters for most of my adult life, I am thrilled not to have had an outbreak in several years.

Topical applications of tea tree oil, calendula ointment and aloe vera are also beneficial in facilitating healing.

Our best defense for preventing cold sore blisters is an optimally functioning immune system and keeping stress levels under control. My advice during this "giving season" is to give also to yourself. Take time for a refreshing walk, some deep breathing, a hot bath with essential oils or meditation and put your best face forward!

"Happy holidays," from Linda!
